Changing from Chlorine to Revacil

  • Stop adding chlorine to the pool.
  • Brush and Vacuum Pool to remove any debris
  • Clean the Filter ( see out Pool Care Guide for Sand, DE or Cartridge filters )
  • Add 1 bottle of Revastop-Chlorine,per 15,000 Gal., to neutralize the chlorine in your pool. Run the filter for 24 hours.
  • The next day, use your Chlorine test kit, to make sure all Chlorine has been removed from the pool.
  • Balance your water ( pH between 7.2 & 7.8) (Alk. between 80ppm. & 125ppm.) and Calcium between 100ppm. & 250ppm.
  • Shock your pool water using 1.5gal. of Revatop 36 per 15,000 gal. Let the filter run continuously for 24 hours.
  • With the filter running, Add one pouch of Revaout, pouring into the pool by the return, to remove any minerals in the water. Let the filter run for 2 hours.
  • Add 1 bottle (32oz.) of Revablue Algaecide per 15,000 gal., pouring it into the pool by the return.
  • Add .8 gal. of Revacil Sanitizer per 15,000 gal., again by the pool return, in order to reach a level of 50ppm. of Revacil. Steps 9 & 10 may be done together
  • Happy Swimming

General Pool Care

The chemicals that you use in your pool account for 25% in keeping your water clear and clean, while the filtration system actually does 75% of the work. Therefore, it is essential that the filtration system be maintained properly. This consist of a visual inspection of the pump and filter, including all lines to make sure there are no leaks and that air is not being drawn into the pool. A careful watch should be made of the pools pressure gauge and to backwash the filter as determined by it's pressure.

In States that have a short swimming pool season, it is necessary to clean the filter with Revafilter, once a year, usually at closing. In warmer weather States, it is necessary to clean the filter with Revafilter at least twice a season. To insure that the filter with run efficiently, a step by step procedure for cleaning all types of filters can be found in our Pool Care Guide.

Equally important as a properly maintained filter, is the length of time that a filter is run. Our Pool Care Guide displays a chart on page 19 that shows you the importance of water temperature to the number of hours needed to keep your water clear and clean.

Pink slime & water mold in swimming pools

What are they ??
Both Pink Slime and Water Mold are bacteria found in the ground; not algae. Both can be transported to a pool by wind and rain but in most cases, swimmers or animals (dogs) bring them into a pool. Pink Slime is normally a pink to red substance that is just like it's name; slimy in nature. It likes to attach itself to plastic floats or toys and even to solar covers. Water Mold is a white mucous or tissue paper-like substance that appears in areas of the pool that are normally shaded, ie... behind a ladder or in the pool light fixture. Both Pink Slime and Water Mold appear when the pH is high and when the sanitizer (Revacil) level has dropped too low.

How to treat Pink Slime & Water Mold ?

  • Lower the pH to 7.0 or below.
  • Look for the area where growth has started and scrub vigorously. Brush the entire surface of the pool with an appropriate brush.
  • Run the filter continuously.
  • Place all plastic toys, floats etc. in pool. If caught in the early stages, a treatment of Revatop 36 will usually take care of the problem. If not caught early enough, you will have to treat the pool with a double dose of Monopersulfate. Then wait a few hours and add a double dose of Revatop36.
  • After 24hrs, rebalance your water to it's proper pH and bring your Revacil level up to 50ppm.
  • Add a preventative dose of Revablue
  • Clean your filter with Revafilter.

How to Prevent Pink Slime & Water Mold ?
Balance your water at least once a week and try to keep the pH in 7.2 to 7.6 range. Keep the sanitizer level between 40 to 50ppm. Shock your pool every 2-4 weeks depending on swimmer load.

Closing a Revacil pool for Winter

  • Brush all walls and floor.
  • Shock the Pool with Revatop 36, 1 Gal. per 10,000 Gal. Let the filter run for 8 hours.
  • Vacuum the Pool if there is any debris.
  • Balance Water ( pH-TAC-Total Hardness )
  • If you use well-water, use a bag of Revaout and let the filter run an additional 6 hrs.
  • Add 1 bottle of Revablue per 10,000 Gal. If the Pool had an algae problem this past year, double the amount for closing.
  • Bring the Revacil level up to 50ppm, let Filter run for several hours.
  • Clean Filter, with Revafilter. See our Pool Care Guide for the correct way to clean your filter.
